McComb claims first district crown since 2019 with win over Miller City

FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) — A district championship was on the line in the Northwest 4 bracket Saturday as Miller City Wildcats faced McComb Panthers at Flag City.
McComb struck first in the bottom of the opening inning. With two runners on base, Camden Swain lifted a high fly ball that dropped into play, allowing a run to score and giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Later in the inning, McComb loaded the bases and drew a walk to force home another run, extending the advantage to 2-0 after one frame.
Miller City turned to Landon Inkrott in relief during the second inning. The Wildcats pitcher finished with five strikeouts and helped keep the deficit within reach.
The Panthers added an insurance run in the fourth when Luke Kern laid down a swinging bunt that brought home Jayden Miller, making it 3-0.
Miller City began to rally in the fifth inning. Max Long delivered a base hit to center field that scored Tanner Verhoff and put the Wildcats on the board.
The Wildcats cut the deficit to 3-2 and brought the tying run aboard in the seventh inning, but McComb pitcher Brayden Welty induced a game-ending groundout to second base, completing a complete-game victory.
McComb Panthers held off Miller City Wildcats 3-2 to claim its first district championship since 2019.
The Panthers advance to the regional semifinals, where they will face Montpelier Locomotives in Bowling Green on Wednesday, June 3 at 5 p.m.
