FORT JENNINGS, Ohio (WLIO) — Division VII eighth-ranked Miller City continued its strong season with a convincing 64-37 road win over Fort Jennings in a Putnam County League showdown.
The Wildcats entered the night having won seven of the last 10 meetings against the Musketeers, but Fort Jennings made it clear early that this one wouldn’t come easy. Senior Calvin Menke got the home team off to a fast start, driving to the basket for the game’s opening points.
Miller City answered right back. Henry Rump found Wes Tobe for a basket inside as the two teams traded scores through the early minutes.
Staying on the offensive end, senior Grady Troyer powered his way to the rim and drew a foul, keeping the Wildcats within one despite missing the free throw to complete the three-point play.
Later in the quarter, Fort Jennings looked to swing momentum its way when sophomore Landon Stechschulte knocked down a three-pointer from beyond the arc, keeping the Musketeers within striking distance.
That would be as close as it stayed. Miller City began to pull away behind crisp ball movement and strong finishes inside. Rump capped one possession with an easy bucket at the rim before Alex Ruck followed with a three-point play to extend the lead.
From there, the Wildcats took control on both ends of the floor, building a comfortable advantage and closing out the 64-37 victory.
With the win, Miller City improved to 14-3 on the season, while Fort Jennings fell to 6-10.
