Elida, Ohio (WLIO) — The Miller City Wildcats moved one step closer to a state tournament berth Thursday night, sweeping St. Paul 3–0 in the Division VII regional semifinal at Elida High School.
Miller City came out strong, taking the first two sets 25–19 and 25–22 before dominating the third to complete the sweep.
With the third set tied 2–2, senior Savanna Niese gave the Wildcats the edge, tipping the ball over two defenders to put Miller City ahead by one.
The Wildcats kept the momentum rolling as Chloe Kuhlman found open space on the court to stretch the lead to nine.
Sophomore Quincy Moenter added the exclamation point moments later with a thunderous kill that pushed Miller City to a 19–9 advantage and fired up the Wildcats bench.
At match point, St. Paul’s final return sailed long, sealing a 25–13 third-set win and sending Miller City to the regional final.
The Wildcats will now play for a trip to the state tournament on Saturday against Tiffin Calvert.
