Pandora, Ohio (WLIO) — Pandora-Gilboa stormed back in the second half to stun rival Columbus Grove 22-21 in the 100th edition of the Route 12 rivalry Friday night.
Columbus Grove appeared in control early, with Landon Best scoring on a 2-yard run in the first quarter before handing off to Trevon Baxter for another touchdown in the second. The Bulldogs built a 14-0 lead by halftime.
Pandora-Gilboa’s offense came alive in the third quarter. Cory Gerten hit Chase Meyer for a key first down before Ben Burkholder powered in from six yards to cut the deficit to 14-7. Grove quickly responded with a Brody McCluer touchdown run to extend the lead to 21-7.
But the Rockets dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Columbus Grove 15-0. Gerten connected with Meyer again, and Pandora-Gilboa piled on late to complete the comeback.
The win marks a statement in the storied rivalry, as the Rockets overcame a two-touchdown deficit to hand the Bulldogs a bitter one-point loss.
