WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — The high school football season is nearing its finish, and four local teams have already punched their tickets to state. But one of the biggest stories in Ohio — and across the country — unfolded in Wapakoneta, where St. Henry delivered a historic performance.

This week’s K&M Contracting Play of the Week comes from the Redskins’ regional title matchup against Marion Local.

In the second quarter, St. Henry trailed 7–6 when senior Charlie Werling kept the ball and broke loose for a 46-yard touchdown run. It was the first of several momentum-shifting plays for the senior, who powered through defenders all night.

Werling finished with four rushing touchdowns, helping St. Henry secure the regional championship and advance to the state semifinals for the first time since 2006. The win also snapped Marion Local’s 76-game winning streak, the longest active streak in the nation.

St. Henry moves on to face Columbus Grove in Week 15 with a spot in the Division VII state championship game on the line.

Congratulations to Charlie Werling, this week’s Play of the Week honoree.
