LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Shawnee wasted no time asserting control in Western Buckeye League play, rolling to a 97–39 victory over Kenton at Lappin Gymnasium.
The Indians entered the night at 2–1 on the season, while Kenton was searching for its first win, and Shawnee quickly showed why it’s among the league’s early contenders.
In the opening quarter, it was Bertke to Bertke, as Beckett Bertke found his brother Trevick Bertke for the finish. Moments later, Trevick forced a Kenton turnover and punctuated the play with a two-handed slam, part of a dominant performance that saw him finish with 23 points.
Kenton responded with baskets from Kyle Barrett and a three-pointer from senior Blaine Bushong, but the Wildcats struggled to keep pace with Shawnee’s tempo and depth.
Shawnee continued to pile on as the game went on, with sophomore Greyson McDonald cleaning up a miss for a putback as the Indians extended their lead.
The result was a complete performance on both ends of the floor, as Shawnee cruised to the 97–39 win, continuing a strong start to conference play.
