ST. MARYS — The Roughriders took control early and never let up, earning a 3-0 shutout victory over Defiance in Western Buckeye League play.
St. Marys opened the scoring in the first half after a Defiance handball set up a penalty kick. Junior Hudson Hertenstein converted from the spot to give the Roughriders a 1-0 lead.
Later in the half, Jake Ackroyd found senior Bradey Triplett, who finished at the post to double the advantage. Triplett added a second goal before halftime, as his shot deflected off a defender and bounced into the net.
James Holtzapple’s squad locked down defensively the rest of the way, preserving the clean sheet and the conference win.
