West Central Ohio golfers open state tournament play in D-II competition

SPRINGBORO / KETTERING — The state golf championships teed off this week with Division II teams and individuals from across West Central Ohio beginning their title pursuit.
At Heatherwoode Golf Club, Jefferson’s Brylee Geary opened play with a steady round of 83, highlighted by a par on 16 and a strong finish despite a closing bogey on 18. The sophomore, who placed sixth at districts, sits tied for 22nd after the first round.
Van Buren advanced to state as a team after a fourth-place district finish. Senior Addyson Adams led the Black Knights with a 75, sinking a clean par putt on 18 to close her day. Teammate Lauren Hibbard carded a 90 as Van Buren ended round one sixth on the team leaderboard.
Over in Kettering at NCR Country Club, Liberty-Benton made its third state appearance in program history. Senior Andrew Tomlinson and junior Jackson Knepper each finished with rounds of 85, while Luke Gerken added an 86 and Parker Martien shot 99. The Eagles sit in 11th place with a team score of 346, as Archbishop Alter leads the field at 314 heading into the final round.
