Thousands of people in the area lost power after Wednesday night's storms, but are slowly getting it back as AEP crews work their way around the area.

AEP had all of their local crews, as well as some out of town crews, working on getting Lima area residents their electricity back. They say many of the outages are the result of trees and limbs falling on power lines, but that they are having trouble getting to the affected spots.

"The major challenge with a lot of the trees and limbs that came down is that those trees didn't bring lines down that are in our road right-of-way area," said John Wrecker, Community Affairs Manager for AEP. "They might be down in people's backyards, they might somewhat inaccessible, so we have to make special provisions to clear the area in order to get a truck in and reconnect the lines and restore the power."

AEP is hoping to have most, if not all power in the area restored by midnight Thursday night.
