A new data center is set to be built on the northeast side of Van Wert, according to Brent Stevens, Executive Director of the Van Wert Area Economic Development Corporation. The approximately 220-acre facility will be located on the northern end of the city's “Mega Site,” north of U.S. Route 30 between Stripe Road and Mendon Road.

Customers along State Route 309 near the Lima Mall, North Cole Street, and Bluelick Road, and some near Elida lost power just before 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The Allen County Emergency Management Agency says they were informed it was an equipment issue at a substation. The power is expected to be restored Tuesday evening.
An open house was held to introduce the plan to people with questions. The plan is to put the farm around South Kemp Road, south of Fort Amanda Road. Several property leases are already in place. The farm is projected to put out enough electricity to power 55,000 homes a year. Smith says the project will create 400 jobs and 400 more indirectly. Through property taxes, he estimates it will raise $2.7 million a year for the surrounding communities.
Hundreds of Wapakoneta residents attended AEP Ohio's open house to provide input on one of its newest electric transmission projects. During the open house, AEP representatives walked people through the project details. The new project will consist of 15 miles of new power line in the Wapakoneta area. This is to help support economic development and improve electric service reliability. Five of the 15 miles are already under construction, but they're still figuring out the best route for the other ten. They have several paths in mind, but really need help to decide on the best one.
Thousands of people in the area lost power after Wednesday night's storms, but are slowly getting it back as AEP crews work their way around the area. AEP had all of their local crews, as well as some out of town crews, working on getting Lima area residents their electricity back. They say many of the outages are the result of trees and limbs falling on power lines, but that they are having trouble getting to the affected spots.
A partnership between two local educational facilities has garnered them recognition in saving energy. The Ohio State University Lima and Rhodes State College have been named an "Energy Efficiency Champion" by American Electric Power Ohio. The two share a campus and have been working together this past year to reduce the amount of electricity being used.
AEP officials said the National Weather Service is reporting that our area saw the highest wind gusts in the state on Sunday. The result was power outages for thousands, for multiple days.
What’s being dubbed as Winter Storm Quiana left over 1,800 people in the surrounding Lima area without power Sunday evening. AEP officials said over 100 poles were torn down across the state.
