LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — It was a “Good Friday” in more ways than one, as an area ministry spread the love of Jesus through a free food distribution event just in time for Easter.

The event was a collaborative effort between the church and several partner organizations.
Volunteers packed boxes of food and loaded them into vehicles as dozens of families came through the Elm Street Church of the Nazarene on West Elm Street to receive holiday provisions. The event was a collaborative effort between the church and several partner organizations.
“The Restoration House came in — they received a large donation of perishable food — and they needed a location to hand it out,” said Jonathan Burkey, pastor of the Elm Street Church of the Nazarene. “Our church is in a good spot, right here downtown, that’s accessible for a lot of people. So they asked if they could use the parking lot, if we’d have some volunteers. And we said, absolutely, we’d love to help.”
Among the volunteers was Lucy Burkey, who said she was motivated by a desire to help others.
“I’m doing it because I just love helping other people,” she said. “It’s really great to see people here and having fun.”
Pastor Burkey expressed his gratitude to the West Ohio Food Bank and its partner agencies for making the food distribution possible and supporting the local community.
