Volunteers packed boxes of food and loaded them into vehicles as dozens of families came through the Elm Street Church of the Nazarene on West Elm Street to receive holiday provisions. The event was a collaborative effort between the church and several partner organizations.

Even though Allen County and the City of Lima are separate governments, they collaborate in a lot of areas. Through numerous meetings and projects, the county and the city find ways to continue the positive momentum of this region. They meet and talk regularly to discuss projects like the Riverfront One building that the city owns and is working with the county to get Brownfield money to help revitalize the property. Lima and Allen County officials continue to work to help the residents that they serve.

Karl brings 33 years of manufacturing experience along with 12 years of service on the Fort Jennings School Board of Education and six years on the Vantage Career Center Board of Education. During the last five years of his career at Honda, Karl served on the board of the Workforce Partnership of Shelby County in Sidney, OH., an opportunity that further developed his passion for workforce and career development.

The Ohio State Lima campus is now offering its 4-year bachelor of science in engineering technology degree exclusively at the engineering and manufacturing center located at the Ford Lima Engine Plant's training center. OSU Lima's dean and director speaking at the Lima Rotary, giving an update on how the program is working to maintain local talent while meeting the needs of local manufacturers with real-world, hands-on experiences.

GROB has moved from making components for combustible engines to electric vehicles to looking at making components for batteries for those vehicles. Along the way, the skill sets of their workforce continue to be more advanced and so does the training needed for the apprentices that will be working at GROB.  Community colleges like Rhodes are ready to train students, whatever the need that manufacturers have.

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Bon Secours Mercy Health will be creating a community medicine program for students starting in 2024. The goal of the program is to train professionals to work in rural communities. Students in the program will complete two years at the Ohio State University Columbus, then complete two years at Mercy Health - St. Rita's. This is all in an effort to better train individuals who want to return to a rural setting.

Regional Talent Manager for RGP, Charlene Paige adds, “Because the population just isn’t growing, we have to train the population that we currently have. Whether we’re transitioning people that are under employed or unemployed through training into positions they can start at a manufacturing facility or one of these other facilities that we’re bringing online.”

The Board took the time to recognize 8 individuals and one business for their support and dedication to those with disabilities that the board serves. Superintendent Teresa Schnipke gave the 2021 annual report giving highlights about how they served more children than ever before in the early intervention program with 348 and those in Employment and Transition hit an all-time high of 145 people in competitive employment.
