LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Lima City Schools is preparing for a first-of-its-kind performance as hundreds of students take the stage to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday.

Approximately 500 choir students from kindergarten through 12th grade will perform together at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center, singing patriotic selections and honoring veterans and active-duty military members.

The large-scale production is being led by Lima Senior High School choir director Amy Phillips, who said the concert will feature both individual group performances and a combined selection.

The concert will feature both individual group performances and a combined selection.

“They’ll be singing three songs together,” Phillips said. “There will be many other songs that are included that will feature different levels of our singers, but ultimately, the big deal is that they’ll all be singing ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ together. They’ll all be singing the national anthem together, and then we’ll finish with a grand finale of ‘The Battle Hymn of the Republic.’”

The concert is free and open to the public, though tickets are required and can be reserved through the civic center box office.

The performance is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, beginning at 6 p.m.
