Free process operations training aims to connect residents with petrochemical careers

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — People interested in starting a new career in the petrochemical industry will have an opportunity to learn more about a free workforce training program during an upcoming informational open house.

Cenovus Energy, in partnership with the Lima Chamber Foundation and The Hub, is offering free training that leads to a Process Operations Certificate, which can help participants launch careers in the petrochemical and manufacturing industries.

To qualify for the program, applicants must have a GED, high school diploma or a higher level of education.

Program organizers say graduates who earn the Process Operations Certificate have gone on to secure well-paying jobs with a number of employers throughout the region.

"There are opportunities and a lot of jobs in our surrounding area. Procter and Gamble, INEOS, the refinery. There's a lot of different manufacturing companies around that actually hire the students also," said Michael Springer, senior lead instructor.

An informational open house will be held Tuesday, July 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Hub. Springer encourages anyone interested in learning more about the program to stop by and explore how the certificate could lead to a new career.
