LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — After years of planning and months of construction, the Lima Community Aquatic Park is set to open soon.

One of the final steps before welcoming the public is getting lifeguards fully trained and ready for swimmers. This weekend, the first group of trainees completed a 24-hour certification process, learning everything from CPR to handling potential spinal injuries.

“They're learning lifeguard skills, this is day three of the Red Cross lifeguard course. We're covering rescues, active and passive victims, CPR, in-water seizures, land seizures, a lot of land-based first aid emergencies, and then of course, head, neck, and spinal injuries,” says Des Shirley, General Manager, Sports Facilities Companies.

The aquatic park is still looking to hire lifeguards ahead of its opening on Aug. 30. Those interested in applying can visit limaaquaticpark.com and click “Join the Team.”
