LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — While charitable giving often declines during the summer months as families travel and children are out of school, the need for assistance remains constant throughout the year.
The Lima Salvation Army is preparing for its annual Christmas in July Red Kettle Campaign to help offset seasonal declines in donations and continue supporting its year-round programs.
Funds raised during the campaign will support the organization's food pantry and other social service programs that assist individuals and families in need throughout the community.
The Salvation Army is also seeking volunteers to ring bells at collection sites across Allen County during July.
"We need volunteers. We need people out there on the streets. This is the best time of year. If you're going to do something for a Salvation Army, this is the time. You know, it's not winter. It's not cold. So you get the nice, you get the great, nice weather. And so that's always good. We ask for two hour time slots," said Paul Downing, operations manager for the Lima Salvation Army.
Red kettles will be located at Allen County Chiefs stores, Kewpee locations, Sam's Club and Walmart stores.
