LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Lima City School students are back in the classroom as summer break comes to an end.
Grade schoolers at Lima's Unity Elementary School were greeted by a group of eager supporters at the school's annual "Clap In."
Dozens of teachers, staff and administrators, along with community members and government leaders, cheered as students made their way into the school. Those supporters say it is important to raise these kids up.

“We just want to make sure that these kids understand they have community that is supporting them, they're standing with them and we're cheering them on from the sidelines,” said Jamie Dixon, president of Lima City Council.
“This is what we do every day. We greet every student every morning at the door. This is just a little bigger to show them that everybody in the community believes in them. The staff and the students here, we take a sense of pride in the relationships that we build and starting on day one is where we like it to be,” said Tricia Winkler, principal of Unity Elementary School.
The emotions of the students were mixed as they came through the doors, though most were happy to be back at school.
Students at Liberty Elementary School were greeted back by the University of Northwestern Ohio's men's soccer team.
