LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - It's best to have a plan in place and remember some simple tips if flooding becomes an issue this week.
Officials say drivers just need to take their time out on the road. Be very careful when traveling underneath bridges and areas with rising water. To keep everyone safe, our local first responders also caution against playing or swimming in standing water.
“A lot of times when we get heavy rain for over a couple of days, you see those pockets. Faurot Park used to be one of them, Michael Street, and Prospect used to be one of them. You get a lot of water accumulating, and kids get out there swimming, and not understanding that this is sewer water that has come out of the sewer. There's a lot of contaminants that can get you sick. There are also other items in that water that might cause you to get pulled under. It can be dangerous,” said Warren Pughsley, inspector at the Lima Fire Department.
