Heavy rain over the past few days have resulted in flooding along area rivers and creeks. On Tuesday afternoon just northwest of Arlington, the Eagle Creek at County Road 24 in Hancock County was running quite high and spilling out of its banks. Water from the creek spilled into nearby fields resulting in at least several inches of water. The fast moving water nearly touched the bottom of the bridge. At this particular location, the roadway was not covered in water.

Bath Township Fire Department was called out Tuesday morning to make a water rescue on a flooded road. The fire department says a man attempted to drive his vehicle through standing water on Thayer Road between Mirror Lake Drive and Sandusky Road.

Extended rain throughout our area - all two and a quarter inches of it - has definitely taken its toll, as there are floodwaters threatening to take over some roads, and in a few places, they already have. Northwest Ohio is certainly no stranger to flooding, and there are areas that are being closely watched in Allen County.

With the abundance of rain predicted through the weekend, flooding may be an issue in some areas. Hancock County is no stranger to flooding events and some of the heavy precipitation that Ohio will see is headed their way. The Blanchard River level projection could be up to 12 feet, which means moderate flooding. In the past couple of years, over 50 properties have been mitigated in hopes to yield flooding of the river.

The US Small Business Administration is offering loans to help out those that were affected by the flooding and tornado in Auglaize and Mercer counties. The center in Auglaize County is located in the basement of the Auglaize County Counil on Aging on Indiana Avenue.

WASHINGTON –Ohio businesses and residents affected by the heavy rainfall and flooding that occurred on May 17, 2019 can apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, Acting Administrator Christopher Pilkerton announced today. Acting Administrator Pilkerton made the loans available in response to a letter from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine on June 24, requesting a disaster declaration by the SBA. The declaration covers Auglaize County and the adjacent counties of Allen, Darke, Hardin, Logan, Mercer, Shelby and Van Wert in Ohio.
