LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — For nearly 25 years, Lima has worked to raise awareness about environmental concerns.
The annual event featured music, art and educational activities aimed at helping people understand what they can do to support the planet.
Heavy rain on Saturday morning moved the Earth Day Awareness Celebration to the Bradfield Center. Thanks to corporate sponsors, the annual event featured music, art and educational activities aimed at helping people understand what they can do to support the planet. While global environmental issues may feel too big to tackle individually, local efforts can still make a difference.
“So, like being aware of how much plastic we're using, trying to recycle as much as we can, reusing products, repurposing products, even conserving energy. I mean, turning the lights off, like using clotheslines instead of dryers, like all these things that my dad used to tell me to do, and I like thought it was not important, but now we're seeing really, it is very important, and it doesn't take a lot of effort,” said Rae Neal, organizer of Lima’s Earth Day Awareness Celebration.
Neal said building sustainable habits can lead to everyday impact.
“You can make it happen. It just sometimes takes effort. And our kids actually help that. They help encourage us to do that, because they are the ones that are inheriting this planet, and we want it to be viable and sustainable for them,” added Neal.
Earth Day began in 1970 and is celebrated globally every year on April 22nd.
