LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Maintaining good mental health is very important, and students at Heir Force Community School took time on Friday to learn how they can stay in a healthy mindset.
Inside the Rhodes State College Motion Mobile Unit, college staff spoke with Heir Force students about mental health challenges they may experience. Specifically, students received insight on symptoms of stress and anxiety, how they can affect the body, and ways to cope positively if they struggle. By the end of the day, the goal was to prepare students with those tools whenever stress and anxiety arise.
“Kids are feeling pressures that they don't necessarily know what to do with, so being able to talk about stress, being able to talk about anxiety is ultimately going to help them so they know what it is and then how to work through it,” says Dr. Patricia Hampshire, Director of Student Counseling Services, Rhodes State College.
“We want kids to be cognizant of things that they may be going through, and as a school community, we want to be able to provide them with the resources that they need to be able to be effective in their own academic journey,” says Dr. Willie Heggins, Executive Director, Heir Force Community School.
Friday's visit by Rhodes State is part of their Behavioral Health Community Awareness Series.
