SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WLIO) - A long and contentious battle between the Shawnee Township trustees and their fire chief appears to be over.
After a multi-hour hearing on Monday to determine the future of Shawnee Township Fire Chief Austin Miller, the two sides reached a settlement that included dropping all charges brought against Miller; that according to the Township's Fire Union, Local 2250. No word from Chief Miller's attorney if the settlement included the chief withdrawing the lawsuit he filed in Toledo federal court last week.
The allegations against Chief Miller started back in the spring and eventually involved paid leave, then a suspension without pay. It all came to a head on Monday, and after witnesses and executive sessions, it was announced all the charges were being dropped.
Chief Miller's attorney tells Your News Now a joint statement on the settlement and what happens next will be "coming soon", exactly what "soon" means is unknown.
