Citizens of Delphos are paying tribute to their hometown heroes that served our country.
Friday morning, veteran banners went up around the city, complete with their pictures, along with the branch of the military and the years that they served. Organizers saw other communities honoring their veterans this way and they wanted to do the same for the men and women of Delphos. So, they started with a goal of 100 banners, and the community liked the idea so much that they doubled that amount. Now they are glad these tributes to their heroes are going up.
“The love of veterans in our family is pretty strong,” says Melissa Myers, who helped bring the Veterans Banners Program to Delphos. “My brother was a veteran, our grandpas were veterans. We just had to make sure we advertised and really that’s it. We know what they give, they sacrificed for everybody, and we wanted to honor them in this way.”
The banners will stay up until November, then they will be taken down and stored until they are ready to go back up before the next Memorial Day.
