Beware of scams when online shopping and making donations

'Tis the season for giving and the Better Business Bureau wants to urge people to make sure you’re giving to a reputable organization.

Beware of scams when online shopping and making donations

The BBB of West Central Ohio warns of fake charities with similar sounding names to well-known charities. They don’t want consumers to be deceived with the many bogus sites that scammers make. That also goes for online shopping with the pop-up ads. Their advice is just don’t click.

Beware of scams when online shopping and making donations

Executive Director of the WCO BBB Rehgan Winkler explains, “Anybody can make an ad, and anybody can post it and most of the time if you click on those they could lead you to bogus sites that look real but they’re really not. So, we suggest shopping directly on those sites googling the names directly. Making sure you’re clicking on the right one looking for the secure HTTPS in the search bar as well as the lock to know that it’s a secure site.”

If you have any questions concerning possible scams, call the Better Business Bureau to make sure it’s legit.
