Box truck takes down power lines leaving many without electricity

Power could be out in portions of Allen County until the early morning hours on Tuesday, after a truck driver snaps power lines.

The outage happening when a box truck took down power lines at the intersection of Eastown and Elm just after 5 p.m., leaving over 1,600 nearby businesses and residences without power. The downed wires also landing on a passing SUV, but firefighters with American Township tell us the people inside the SUV were okay.

The driver of the box truck, who was already being followed by law enforcement, drove away from the scene. After a continued pursuit, the truck was stopped near the intersection of Makely and Westerly Road. The driver of the truck, Steven Tafflinger of Lima, is charged with OVI, failure to control, and leaving the scene.
