Our OhioMeansJobs Student Employee of the Month is Brayden Conley, a Delphos St. John's student who heads straight from school every day to work in HVAC.
Through the senior internship program at St. John's, Brayden Conley has worked with his job coach from OhioMeansJobs to discover his interest in the trades. Now, he works five days a week at All Temp Refrigeration, and his advisors say he sets a strong example for other students looking to jumpstart their careers while still in school.
"With Brayden's class, I came in and we did the career profile assessment that can be found at the OhioMeansJobs website," said Becca Saine, the OhioMeansJobs job coach who works with Delphos St. John's students. "Basically, it takes their interests and then it matches it with different employment and things like that, just to kind of give them an idea of what they want to do when they graduate high school. Brayden has gotten great reviews from his employer, All Temp Refrigeration; his guidance counselor, Mrs. Ross, has spoken highly of him, and it sounds like he's doing a really great job over there."
Each day of work, Brayden chips away at one of the most difficult topics for someone new to the HVAC industry, learning about the huge variety of parts and equipment.
"There's a lot of parts that go into it, so basically every day you're not working with the same exact thing; you're doing a bunch of different things. I go over the packing list for the parts, and I'll go into the return bay and put away a lot of the parts, and basically just help out around the part area," stated Brayden Conley, OhioMeansJobs Student Employee of the Month.
Brayden's colleagues at All Temp Refrigeration say he's already shaping up to be a great future employee because he has something that can't be taught—a strong work ethic.
"He's very good at staying busy, at finding work, at just looking for what needs done, looking ahead, and just always staying engaged. He clearly is someone that wants to work, that likes to use his hands," commented Dustin Pohlman, vice president of All Temp Refrigeration.
