“One of the recurring themes is, when a leader gets better, everybody wins,” said Joe Patton, director of OhioMeansJobs Allen County. “But a lot of people don't realize they can lead from where they're at. So I think that's a big thing. We like to bring our leadership team, from both management on down to line staff, because we're trying to develop future leaders at our agency and for the county, and this is a great place where they can get inspired.”

November is recognized as Hire a Veteran Month, but OhioMeansJobs Allen County says hiring veterans should be a practice you do all year long. OhioMeansJobs officials say they have a special skill set that those who have never been in the military may not possess. Veterans move to the top of the list for assistance when looking for employment.

Task Force Lima meeting to discuss economic factors around the region and country impacting the tank plant. One major topic on the agenda was workforce development and the successful partnership with OhioMeansJobs to fill vacancies at the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center through career fairs and online recruitment. They are also working on plans to send representatives to Washington, D.C., in early 2025 to advocate for federal funding that would be put towards modernizing machines, equipment, and facility infrastructure.

Ohio law enforcement agencies are struggling to find people to fill their ranks, but the state has developed a website that is hoping to help. Lawenforcementjobs.ohio.gov is powered by technology that is used on the OhioMeansJobs website to connect police departments, sheriff's offices, and other agencies with potential candidates for free. Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted says the website will give job seekers a recruitment edge the more they use the resource, as well as save them time and money.

Fourteen Allen County high school seniors are getting some financial help for their next step after graduation. OhioMeansJobs Allen County awarded a $1,000 to a student in each of the school districts they work with in Allen County. For six years, job coaches have been working with students on developing career pathways and resumes with the hope they see the career opportunities they could have right here in Allen County.
