An Ohio Senator is working on completing a proposed law that could help with semiconductor production in the United States. Sen. Sherrod Brown was named to a committee that will be taking two similar bills that came out of the U.S. House and Senate that deal with increasing the manufacturing of items domestically and to reduce any dependencies on foreign companies for necessary items like semiconductors. Brown says the proposed bill will be encouraging computer chip manufacturers to build in the United States, much like Intels $20 billion investment in central Ohio.
“But then it is going to build supply chains, so that, when something happens there is an outage of some sort, you don’t have to wait for supplies from around the world, if they are even reliable, to show up shutting down lines. We saw so many lines shut down, auto, appliance, all kinds of companies delayed or shut down because of the chip shortage.”
Brown says if this bill become law, it will help the United States compete with China.
