LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - People and businesses that continue to rise to the top and help others do the same were honored Saturday night at the Community Enrichment Dinner.

Community Enrichment Dinner promotes diversity and inclusion in our area

The annual event raises money to fund programs that support diversity and inclusion in the Lima region.

The theme of the night was the Tuskegee Experience to go along with the entertainment for the evening, the play “Black Angels Over Tuskegee." The annual event raises money to fund programs that support diversity and inclusion in the Lima region. But it also recognizes the people and businesses in the area that are working to support those same ideas and has helped this community become what it is today.

“It’s even difficult to start naming names of who should be awarded. What should we recognize because so many people have worked together over the last decades to make this community strong.  We are opening this huge box of wonderfulness that has always existed in this community but never had their song sung, and that is what we are doing tonight,” says Dr. Vickie A. Shurelds, Chair of the Community Enrichment Dinner.

Beside the people and businesses that were recognized with the Community Enrichment Awards, there were others that got “Redtail Courage Awards,” which were named in honor of the brave Tuskegee Airmen who overcame so much to fight for the United States in World War 2.
