After a couple of years of hiatus due to the pandemic, the local “Juneteenth” celebration is back.
The Council for the Arts and its community partners are inviting the community to join the celebration with more activities and a new location. It will be held in downtown Lima on June 17th and 18th. There will be a variety of activities including a black and white ball, 3 on 3 basketball tournament, a fashion show, food, music, and much more. Organizers say it’s a great way to commemorate African American freedom.
Juneteenth Chair Marc Wright explains, “This is fun, it’s entertaining, it’s about learning about other cultures. And just really a celebration of that culture as very important in our community to ensure that we are speaking and learning about different cultures in our community to bring unity and celebrating us is the main focus of this.”
More details will be coming out as Juneteenth gets closer.
