The elderly and children are the most vulnerable to heat-related illnesses, and it's mainly because of two reasons, they don't drink enough liquids and they do not get out of the heat when they feel hot. You could be suffering from heat exhaustion if you feel tired or have cramps in your legs. But the symptoms of heat stroke are more extreme, and the effects could be more severe.

“It is usually characterized with the inability to sweat and inability to regulate the temperature,” says Dr. David Toro, ER Physician at Mercy Health-St. Rita's. “So, it can present as well without tremendous status at the same time. So, it would be somebody that is confused, no sweating despite them being very hot and having spent some time outside in the heat in an area that is hot enough without air conditioning.”

Dr. Toro says it is also important to remember to take your medication, especially when temperatures are high.
