Elida High School honors lost students with blood drive

The auxiliary gym of Elida High School was busy with their annual Red Cross Blood Drive, but this time, the drive had a special dedication behind it.

"This year we're dedicating it to Drew Dulebohn and Jakob Saxton," said Dennis Pohlman, the blood drive coordinator for Elida High School.

Back in August, the two Elida high schoolers lost their lives in an auto accident. The families of those two students say that this blood drive is a way to keep their sons’ memories alive, and bringing the school together to do some good.  "I think a lot of people just want to support the community and what's going on, and if it's in Drew and Jakob's name or regardless, I think it's just a good supportive measure from the Elida community for everybody," said Cheryl Crites, who is Jakob’s mother.  "That's a big part of what Drew's family and what my family want to do with the boys is to remember and make any good out of any of this and help others."

The goal for the blood drive was fairly standard, but with people coming and donating, things were looking positive for the school and the community to make a big difference.

"Our goal today is 75 pints, and hopefully we can succeed that," Pohlman said.  "We're having a great response from the students, and I'm sure the families really appreciate that."

"I know we were really promoting it, shared it, and this was actually Drew's mom who really really set this up in the boys' names," Crites said.
