Feeling sick: Do you stay home or go to work?

Are you sneezing, coughing, or have a fever and you are still going to work? You may be doing more harm in your office than good.

Most of us have faced the decision of going in to work versus staying at home if you are sick. Even if you try and keep to yourself, the flu or cold is contagious and when you cough or sneeze you could be spreading the illness to places you may not realize. Doctor Lisa Casey of St. Rita's says one way to make that decision easier is to know your symptoms. If you have a fever of over 101 degrees, that is a sure sign that you need to stay home.

"And as we're going through the flu season, if you have fevers and chills and body aches, those three a lot of times tell me that the flu is coming, people will come in and say hey I just feel like I been hit by a Mack truck. That's a good sign that you've got the flu and you probably should stay home from work," said Dr. Lisa Casey.

If you decided to work at home you could be prolonging your flu or cold, Casey says the best way to get better quicker is to get plenty of sleep and eat right.
