Mayor Christina Muryn presented two possible programs to make Findlay a more attractive site for businesses in certain industries targeted by the city to develop new locations or expand existing ones. One suggested program, which has already been implemented in Van Wert, would create one or more Downtown Redevelopment Districts, areas centered around registered historic buildings and spaces. With an RDR, property values increase and more revenue can be put towards assisting business owners in the district, and towards city projects.

"We would be able to use the increase in that property tax to make infrastructure in the area, maybe increase parks, or increase sidewalks. Anything like that that's going to benefit the area. It could even be water and sewer infrastructure, street infrastructure," Muryn explained.

She also introduced a tax rebate plan that would help Findlay become an even more competitive site for new businesses by offering multi-year tax rebates for employers in desired industries based on how many high-paying jobs they create.

"Adding more options to help say, hey listen, you're able to get incentives from the state related to investment for infrastructure or building out your plant, but we can provide a longer-term incentive for you to bring not just jobs, but targeted jobs in certain sectors and paying over $60,000," she continued.

Both plans will be reviewed by council members over the next several weeks before they meet for a more in-depth discussion.
