LIMA, OH (WLIO) - In just two years the country will be celebrating a milestone and the State of Ohio wants communities to join in.

Grant opportunity available for programs and projects highlighting local region in Ohio's history

The nation will be 250 years old in 2026. The America 250 - Ohio Commission is providing grants for nonprofits, education, and local government organizations along with independent artists and musicians to develop projects that will highlight our region's influence in the history of our country. They are looking for submissions that will impact tourism and economic development, engage youth and lifelong learning, and highlight points of pride and unity.

"But one of the things that we're also specifically looking for are any programs or projects that tell Ohio's stories. Highlighting those stories of Ohio's past and present. We have some significant stories even here locally that we can tell about some of our giants who have come and gone before us," explained Mayor Sharetta Smith, City of Lima.

Applications are currently being accepted until March 15th. Grants will range from up to $50,000 for the Buckeye Impact grant and to up to $5,000 for the Trillium local activity grants. For more information, visit https://america250-ohio.org/grants/.
