January 16, 2024 Press Release from the City of Lima: In 2026, the United States will celebrate its 250th Anniversary. Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith is a member of the America 250-Ohio Commission, the state’s official entity planning the country’s semiquincentennial. The America 250-Commission is offering grants up to $50,000 for nonprofits, education, local government organizations, and independent artists and musicians.

The grants will be offered at two different levels: Buckeye Impact Grants for up to $50,000 designed for projects with a statewide, regional, or significant local impact, and Trillium Local Activity Grants for up to $5,000 for projects with a local or community-wide impact. Projects can include exhibitions, commemorative activities, digital and documentary media projects, public events and programs.

“The grants offered through the America 250-Ohio Commission provide a great opportunity for our community to share in the nation-wide celebration,” states Mayor Sharetta Smith. “Lima’s story is an important strand in the tapestry of our nation’s 250 years, and this funding provides a valuable opportunity to elevate our community’s rich history.”

Key themes surrounding Ohio’s celebration of the 250th anniversary include:

  • Ohio Originals: Highlighting points of pride and unity
  • Engaging Youth and Lifelong Learners: Education and Scholarship
  • Inclusive Statewide Engagement: Museums, arts and culture
  • Telling Ohio Stories: Highlighting stories of Ohioans past and present

Applications will be accepted starting January 15th, 2024 until March 15, 2024. Applicants must be nonprofit organizations registered in the State of Ohio and located in Ohio.
