Liberty-Benton holds off Van Buren in high-scoring softball battle

VAN BUREN (WLIO) — Liberty-Benton came out on top in a back-and-forth battle with Van Buren, securing a 9-7 win.
Avery Beall led the way in the circle early for Van Buren, striking out six batters in the game.
Liberty-Benton broke through first when Alexis Walker lined a hit past second base to score the game’s opening run. Taylor Shaw followed with another RBI to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Van Buren answered in the second inning as Andrea Groman drove in Beall with a hit to left field to cut the deficit to one.
Megan Gerken helped keep Liberty-Benton in front, finishing with eight strikeouts as the Eagles held on down the stretch for the win.
