The Hancock County Sheriff's Department has received funding to put more focus on traffic safety next year.
Sheriff Michael Heldman says that his department received a grant for over $36,000 to put a focus on traffic safety priority areas, like safety belt use, drunk drivers, motorcycle safety, and young drivers. The grant was handed out by the Ohio Traffic Safety Office and will be used for the 2019 calendar year.
The Safety Office awards grants for projects that have the greatest impact to reduce fatal crashes or significantly improve traffic safety.
