FINDLAY, Ohio — A Findlay man was arrested following a brief vehicle pursuit Sunday morning.

Samuel Hilkert, 29, was charged with fleeing and eluding and operating a vehicle while under the influence. He is currently being held at the Hancock County Justice Center.

According to the Findlay Police Department, on Sunday, May 11, just after 8 a.m., an officer observed a silver Chrysler 300 traveling north on Grand Avenue. The driver “clearly disobey a posted stop sign on Grand Avenue at E. Lincoln Street, and continue north accelerating rapidly.”

The suspect turned westbound onto E. Hardin Street. The officer initiated a traffic stop and a subsequent pursuit after the vehicle disobeyed the four-way regulated stop sign at E. Hardin Street and East Street, then turned southbound.

Police say the suspect drove into the YMCA drop-off lane on the west side of the building before reentering the intersection and heading westbound on E. Lincoln Street. He then turned south on Beech Avenue, looped through the State Bank parking lot, and continued south on Beech Avenue.

The suspect eventually pulled into an alley and stopped in a parking lot behind 714 Beech Ave., where he surrendered without resistance. The pursuit lasted approximately one minute and covered about 0.47 miles.
