HARROD, OH (WLIO) - The Lima community turned out for a golf tournament to ensure today's kids have the same opportunities they did.
This year's proceeds will be donated to the Lima City Schools football program through the new nonprofit 4 The Friendship.
On Saturday, the 1st annual Lima Masters was held. The tournament started off years ago as a Lima native reunion in Columbus, but this year, the founders decided to bring it home and use the outing to raise money for athletic programs in local schools. This year's proceeds will be donated to the Lima City Schools football program through the new nonprofit 4 The Friendship. Many participants moved away from Lima a long time ago but were happy to come back for a good time and a good cause.
"Our plan is each year we'll look at another type of foundation, athletic event, group that we'll donate to. And then what we'll also do is look to honor some of the legends that were in the sports community, like Ron Jackson and Jim Dally, who we're honoring today," said co-founder Dave Billiter.
Many of the golfers were student athletes themselves and understand how important it is that kids have access to a quality sports program.

"We believe that those bonds not only last during their youth but all through life. If you look around the course today, all of the friendships that we've developed have started from youth sports. So, as those friendships build in youth support, we believe that communities will thrive," explained Mike Konopka, another co-founder of the Lima Masters.
4 The Friendship also made a donation to a local resident battling cancer after the outing.
