Warmer weather is upon us, but so are the risks of mosquito and tick bites.
These insects will start to become more prevalent as we get consistent warm weather. Bill Kelly of Allen County Public Health urges people to use the proper repellant and wear long sleeves and long pants if you're in an infested area. Dusk and early dawn are the most prevalent times for mosquitoes. West Nile and La Crosse virus have appeared in our area before. Ticks can latch on to you as you brush by any kind of vegetation. Check yourself when you can and to remove them, pull gently from the base, and clean well.
Kelly said to clean gutters, bird baths, and flower pots. Also be aware if you're traveling as mosquitoes can carry other diseases like Zika outside our region.
