LIMA, OH (WLIO) -  The Lima Senior High School DECA group is helping some local athletes go for the gold. The students presented a $650 check to the Allen County Special Olympics at the Allen Co. Board of DD meeting Monday night. The board also donated an additional $250 to help the athletes, bringing the total to $900. “Without donations, without kindness of other people stepping up to help, we cannot make this happen,” says Stacy Crouse, local coordinator for Allen County Special Olympics. “So, the students have gone way above and beyond. We are very happy and we are very honored that they chose us as well.”

The DECA group sold t-shirts and sweatshirts, and they also collected donations at their Joy Project Basketball game in January.

“I’m very proud of myself and my fellow project leads,” says Kaitlyn Thompson, Project Lead for Lima Sr. DECA. “I have an aunt that has Downs Syndrome. So, just to be able to give opportunities to people. It’s heartwarming, its makes me proud that the Lima community comes together to raise this money tonight.”

The DECA students have made donations for the last four years to different programs that support those with developmental disabilities.
