With three major crashes in the last month at the intersection of Thayer Road and U.S. Route 30, the Ohio State Highway Patrol does have some concerns.
The three crashes left three people dead and a couple with serious injuries. Lieutenant Tim Grigsby says he believes the crashes occur for multiple reasons but mostly for no good way to get around Lima, GPS is the reason for the high traffic. Grigsby said people have difficulty merging onto the divided highway from a county road. He said meetings are being planned with the Ohio Department of Transportation and Allen County Engineer's Office.
"Ultimately what you have is you have state route, State Route 117 or State Route 309, and you have a U.S. route for U.S. 30, connected by a road that wasn't designed for mass out of town travel. So you're getting all this traffic that the road wasn't designed for and it's causing problems because the GPS routes them down there," explained Lt. Tim Grigsby, Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Lt. Grigsby believes signs may be a solution for the short term.
