Emergencies can happen at any time and the quick response of police, firefighters, and paramedics could make the difference between life and death.
The public safety telecommunicator, also known as a dispatcher, is vital when it comes to emergencies called into 9-1-1. They are the first contact with citizens needing emergency services and gathering critical information for first responders. These men and women work to protect not only the person that is calling but the crews they are dispatching as well. A dispatcher never knows what they will be facing when answering a 9-1-1 call.
Allen County dispatchers say they look out for one another when a tough call comes in. The Allen County Sheriff's Office employs fifteen dispatchers. Five each on three standard 8 hour shifts.
April 9th through 15th is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
