Nearly a dozen Ohio veterans inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor

Nearly a dozen Ohio veterans, including 5 from the Logan County area, were inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor on Friday.

The ceremonies, held in the Atrium of the Ohio Statehouse, welcomed the veterans themselves, or family members of those who are unable to attend or are deceased.

One of the veterans inducted into the Military Hall of Fame was Private First Class Herbert Bechtel, a 1964 graduate of Indian Lake High School, who was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his heroism. He died in South Vietnam in August of 1966 at the age of 20. Fellow soldiers say he sacrificed himself, to allow the wounded to be evacuated. Family and friends are currently seeking to have him awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously.
