ODOT employee discovers human remains along I-75

Routine grass cutting along Interstate-75 on Monday, led to the discovery of human remains.

It was at milepost 149 northbound on I-75, an Ohio Department of Transportation employee had to abandon his duties of mowing the grass. A blue sleeping bag laid in front of the machine and inside the zipped up sleeping bag, a black plastic bag with human remains inside.

"Upon arriving out here we did determine that what was found was human remains," said Lt. Matt Crow, commander of the Findlay Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. "At this point, we’re doing a further investigation to determine what possibly might (have) occurred."

Very little is known about the remains discovered nearly 10 miles South of Findlay, along the tree line of I-75. The call came in just before 10 o’clock Monday morning and the investigation is still in the early stages according to Lt. Crow.

There is no way to know how long the remains have been there and it is undetermined whether it is male or female.

Alongside the help of a drone and cadaver dog, Crow said the remains will be shipped to the Lucas County coroner for examination.

"And from then we’ll gather any evidence that might be included in the bag that the remains were found in, seeing if we can develop any leads from it."

Officers began a preliminary search for clues one mile in each direction around the site, as well.
