AAA expects a record number of Americans to hit the road this Thanksgiving, and transportation officials say drivers should be prepared for traffic across Ohio.
Nearly 82 million Americans are projected to travel by car for the holiday, marking a new record. To ease congestion, the Ohio Department of Transportation plans to remove as many work zones as possible. AAA expects the heaviest traffic Wednesday afternoon, with another big wave on Sunday as people head home.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol encourages drivers to obey the speed limit, buckle up, drive sober and avoid distractions behind the wheel.
“Just main thing is just give yourself some extra time. Give yourself extra space while you're driving. Plan your routes. Know where you're going, where you need to go. I'll throw a little plug out for the Ohio Department of Transportation — they do have an app, OHGO. You can check out current traffic patterns, you know, you can try to come up with an alternative route to go,” said Sgt. Anthony Kuhn of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
ODOT’s full list of recommended travel times and live traffic updates is available on the state’s OHGO app and at ohgo.com.
