September 25, 2024, Press Release from the Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University: Ada, Ohio – The Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University invites the public to a special screening of the documentary Inheritance at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 6:00 pm.
This poignant documentary, filmed over 11 years, follows a family and community in rural Appalachia Ohio. This film shows first-hand those afflicted by poverty, abuse, and addiction. Dean Beatty shares, "This film shows a real-life depiction of the effects the opioid epidemic can have on families. With our commitment to rural health and providing care to our community, it is important to show this directly to our students and community leaders. We are hopeful the film will continue the conversation about what we can do in northwest Ohio and inspire our students to return to their hometowns to look for ways to end this epidemic."
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the event is free and open to the public. A post-show discussion with producer Matt Moyer and family member Curtis Ramsey will follow, offering a space for meaningful dialogue about the film's themes.
This event provides an opportunity for students, faculty, and the public to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by rural communities and explore solutions through collective conversation.
Inheritance has received several awards, including the Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 2024 Slamdance Film Festival. For more information about the documentary, visit inheritancethefilm.com.
