LIMA, OH (WLIO) - OSU Lima took the time to thank scholarship donors and show them the impact that their generosity has had on students.
Scholarship recipients and donors gathered Thursday evening to celebrate the funding that has helped many students achieve their dream of getting a college education. Three students took the podium to explain how without the community's support through scholarships, they wouldn't have the means to earn their degrees.
The keynote speaker, Allen County Commissioner Beth Seibert, emphasized that donations for scholarships are an investment in the future of the workforce, allowing young people from all different backgrounds to be able to contribute to their communities.
"I am the Social Work Volunteer Club president, I am very blessed to have this role. We do a lot of service and outreach, I think that's how we can give back to the community that our donors reside in. After I graduate, I am very interested in joining the Peace Corps and continuing international service and really making a difference all around the globe," said Kyira Knous, a social work major at Ohio State Lima who is able to attend the school thanks to scholarships.
This academic year, OSU students have received more than $400,000 in scholarships funded by Lima area donors alone.
