A petroleum gas leak from a rail car forced the closure of Elida Road Friday night. Before 7 pm., there was an odor of gas coming from a rail car on the CSX tracks that run alongside Elida Road. Crews found liquid gas leaking from one of the rail cars. Elida road was closed between Cable Road and Cole St. as a precaution, and some businesses and a residence were evacuated. The American Township Fire Department reports after several hours it was determined that there was no danger to the public and the all-clear was given. The cause of the leak remains under investigation.
